Munich, the third largest city of Germany, is the capital of Bavaria State (previously Free State of Bavaria) of Germany and it is located on the river Isar in the north of Bavarian Alps. The population of Munich city limits is 1.35 million people and over 5 million people in the Munich metropolitan areas. Munich city derives its name from the German word meaning Monk, monks of the Benedictine Order who founded the city. That is why, the monks are depicted on the “City's Coat of Arms”.





Black and Gold, the colors of the Holy Roman Empire, are the official colors of Munich since the time of Ludwig the Bavarian. Climate in Munich is continental temperate, which is often strongly influenced by the proximity of the Alps, implying that the precipitation is often very high and violent rainstorms are unexpected all throughout the year. Munich that hosted he Summer Olympics in 1972 is the potential candidate for the Winter Olympics in 2018. Munich City is the home to an inspiring mix of ancient architecture and modern buildings, royal avenues and squares, neo-gothic buildings, designer shops, luxury boutiques, star hotels, several parks and botanical gardens, famous art galleries and Bavarian culture and couple of professional football teams.
