Facts about Germany City Koln Facts

Koln or Cologne is the fourth largest city in Germany. With a population of around 10 million residents, Koln is one of the major metropolitan region in the European Union. Koln, situated on the river Rhine, is one of the oldest cities of Germany, founded in 38 BC. University of Koln is also one of the oldest universities in Europe. Cologne Cathedral, a famous monument and landmark of the city, is the seat of Catholic Archbishop of Cologne. Home to several museums and hundreds of art galleries, Koln is an important and a vibrant center of arts and culture in Rhineland.





Museums in Koln are famous for the exhibitions of Ancient Roman Archeological Sites, historical sculpture and contemporary graphics. Koln is renowned for hosting its annual Cologne Carnival, Reggae festival, Cologne Comedy Festival and Cologne Gay Pride. Climate in Koln is temperate oceanic with mild winters and warm summers and it is one of the warmest cities in Germany. Being situated on the River Rhine, Koln is prone to frequent floods. Apart from its world famous landmark Cologne Cathedral, Koln is also well known for other important places such as medieval houses and city gates, bridges, sports venues, Roman-Germanic culture, carnivals, musical fares, museums, Gothic Church, Shrine of the Three Kings, and a couple of world heritage sites.
