With a population of 667,000, Frankfurt is the fifth largest city of Germany. Frankfurt am Main or simply Frankfurt is in the State of Hesse and it is different from another smaller city with the same name, which is the State of Brandenburg. That is why, the Germans sometimes call Frankfurt by its official name to distinguish it from the smaller Frankfurt City. However, for all the foreigners, Frankfurt refers to the main Frankfurt City. Frankfurt is the only German city that has been listed in the world's Alpha City rankings.





Located on the Main River, Frankfurt is one of the most important financial and transportation centers in Germany and the largest financial center in the continental Europe. Frankfurt is the home of European Central Bank, German federal Bank, Frankfurt Stock Exchange, Frankfurt Trade Fair and Frankfurt International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world. Frankfurt is the Germany's second most expensive city and ranks in the top ten most livable cities in the world. Frankfurt is the seat of several important educational and cultural institutes, botanical gardens, museums and a significantly large numbers of skyscrapers (buildings taller than 150 meters).
