Facts About Eagles Nest Germany

Eagle's Nest or Kehlsteinhaus (in German) is a mountain top chalet style building that was built by the Nazis as a Teahouse for the Third Reich. Eagle's Nest was designed and built by the personal secretary (and Head of the Nazi Party) of Hitler for his 50th birthday present and as a retreat for Hitler and entertaining the visiting dignitaries. Eagles Nest is situated on a ridge atop Mountain Kehlstein at an elevation of about 6000 feet.

The last 124 meter (400 feet) to Eagles Nest can be reached by an elevator bored straight through the mountain and linked via a tunnel, the elevator being still in daily use. Although designed as Teahouse for Hitler but Hitler visited Eagles Nest for not more than 10 times and the most significant reference to the Eagles Nest is the Wedding Reception of Eva Braun's sister. Todays Eagles Nest, owned by a Trust, is a restaurant with an indoor dining area and outdoor beer garden and it is a popular tourist place for the Britons, Canadian and American tourist who are attracted by historical sight seeings. Local guides offer tours to Eagles Nest for the visiting foreigners.
