Facts About Germany Phone Numbers

Federal Network Agency, a government agency responsible for telecommunication and its infrastructure, regulates the Telephone Numbering Plan in Germany. Country Calling of Germany is '+49' and Trunk prefix is '0'. In Germany Phone Numbers, there are no standard numbers of digits for area codes or subscribers telephone numbers, that is some of the subscribers may have phone number as small as three digits.





There are over 5200 geographical area codes with lengths varying from two to five digits (excluding the Trunk prefix '0'). Some of the prefix for major area codes: 02 for the area surrounding Dusseldorf, 03 for the area surrounding Berlin, 04 for the area surrounding Hamburg, 05 for the area surrounding Hanover, 06 for the area surrounding Frankfurt, 07 for the area surrounding Stuttgart, 08 for the area surrounding Munich, and 09 for the area surrounding Nuremberg. 01 is the prefix for non-geographic area codes. Cellular phones are allotted the area codes starting with 015, 016 and 017. Like in many countries, the emergency services are assigned fixed three to five digit numbers without any area codes or prefixes. For instance, 110 is the phone number for Police Emergencies and 112 for other emergencies.
